Special Project Proposals

The Food Institute of the University of Guelph invites proposals from university faculty, staff and students for special projects intending to elevate the university’s reputation as Canada’s food university, build strategic partnerships with stakeholders, and showcase university food research.

Food from Thought

The University of Guelph has received $76.6 million investment from the federal government’s Canada First Research Excellence Fund for Food from Thought, a extensive research program on food, agriculture and biodiversity.

Feeding 9 Billion

Feeding 9 Billion, a food security initiative based out of the University of Guelph, is committed to providing the general public insight, outreach and education around issues of food, agriculture and hunger. Feeding 9 Billion provides objective, evidence-based information in an accessible manner for everyone (both through various research initiatives, as well as drawing on and compiling others’). Feeding 9 Billion is committed to educating youth, who have the capacity to improve the food system of the future.

Feeding 9 Billion resources include videos, a graphic novel, lesson plans for elementary schools, books, and speaking engagements. The program includes a unique event called the Feeding 9 Billion Challenge, which supports Canadian undergraduate students to develop meaningful food security projects and to become agents of change during their time in university. Guelph Food Academy

University of Guelph Laboratory Services

University of Guelph Laboratory Services provide analytical and diagnostic services to the agriculture, food, environment and animal health industries with excellence and expertise through two operational units. Services include allergen testing, antibiotic and drug residues in food, dairy analysis, food safety testing, and pesticide residue testing. To learn more visit the Laboratory Services page.

The Institute for the Advanced Study of Food and Agricultural Policy

The Institute for the Advanced Study of Food and Agricultural Policy is housed within the Department of Food, Agricultural, and Resource Economics, OAC, University of Guelph. The mission of the institute is to provide independent, credible, and timely policy analysis with respect to socially significant food and agricultural issues. Safe Food Forum

The Safe Food Forum is a partnership between the Retail Council of Canada, University of Guelph, and McGill University. It will help food retailers keep informed about evolving food safety challenges and continuously improve food safety management strategies to ensure safe food for all Canadians.
