Alex Hostettler
MSc Student in Environmental Science at the University of Guelph
Alex is a 2025 Net-Zero Food Systems Challenge Participant
Alex Hostettler is a Masters of Environmental Sciences (coursework) student at the University of Guelph. He completed his Bachelor of Science in Agriculture with Honors at Guelph, majoring in Animal Science and minoring in ecology. Originally planning on attending veterinary school, Alex became fascinated by environmental issues and just how important they are to society at large. Alex felt he could make a real difference in this field, and when he found out about the Masters of Environmental Sciences Coursework program, it was love at first sight; he knew it was for him. Alex is not only passionate about the environment; he strives to make a greater impact by broadening his horizons, having a keen interest in business and economics. Alex hopes to work in industry or government upon graduation, working in a role related to the environment, agriculture or business (or a combination of all three!).
Alex joined AFI’s NZFSC, as the challenge seeks to make the food chain more sustainable and blends industry, environmental science and agriculture together. Alex believes participating in NZFSC is one way to make a difference in the world, as well as further his skills.
