Alice Raine
Director, Operations
Alice is Director of Operations at the University of Guelph’s Arrell Food Institute. Her role spans team leadership; strategic, budgetary and business planning; oversight of program delivery; as well as brokering and supporting partnerships. She supports people, especially those from groups structurally and historically excluded from spaces she has access to, and is grateful to those who advise her on how to do better.
Alice’s career is at the interface of research, decision-making, and skill development. She has been part of three UK Government Departments, as well as the Royal Society – the Science Academy for the UK and Commonwealth. She led portfolios for Higher Education and Research Policy, served as a Chief Scientific Adviser’s deputy, and managed networks of experts. She moved to Canada from the UK in 2014.
Alice received a BA(Hons) in Biological Sciences from the University of Oxford and a MSc (distinction) in Science and Technology Policy from the University of Sussex. She was also elected to a two-year Policy Fellowship at the Centre for Science & Policy at the University of Cambridge.
In addition to her professional interests, Alice may be found with her nose in a book, her hands in her garden dirt, her feet exploring city streets, or filling her heart and stomach by sharing meals with friends & family.
