Deidre Adams
Fund Development Manager, FoodForward South Africa
For the past 20 years I have worked in various senior management roles in institutional advancement. In the Development & Alumni Department at the University of Cape Town (UCT) my roles included Senior Manager for Major Gifts & Strategic Projects as well as Head of the Fundraising Dept. In 2018, after spending 17 years working at my alma mata and Africa’s top university, I changed sectors to work as Fund Development Manager for South Africa’s largest food distribution non-profit organisation, FoodForward SA. Working at a non-profit which positions itself as a business to business solution and African thought leader in the food security space, has been a fascinating lesson in how to achieve maximum impact and reach through innovation. At the non-profit I manage stakeholder engagement, fundraising, stewardship, marketing, communications, events, campaigns and our volunteer programmes. This position allows me to harness my skills in project management to navigate the complexities of working with multiple stakeholder groups. Through the integration of these programmes I hope to achieve local and global awareness of our work, thereby attracting funding to enable us to work to scale. Winning the prestigious Arrell Global Food Innovation Award for FoodForward SA has been a pinnacle moment in my career so far.
