Manahil Zaid will be completing her master’s in the Department of Family Relations and Applied Nutrition under the supervision of Dr. Jess Haines and Dr. Sadaf Mollaei, Arrell Chair in the Business of Food. Manahil previously completed her B.A.Sc. in Applied Human Nutrition also at the University of Guelph. At U of G, she led campus-wide initiatives to promote nutritious eating, reduce food waste, and improve food access, and her role as Communications Coordinator at the Arrell Food Institute deepened her understanding of global food system challenges. She looks forward to contributing to AFI’s mission of building sustainable, healthy and resilient food systems during her time as an Arrell Scholar and beyond.
Manahil’s research aims to encourage greater consumption of plant-based foods with the potential to reduce the environmental impact of our food system while simultaneously improving population health, leading to a sustainable, healthy, and resilient food system. Her research focuses on engaging youth to effectively promote plant-based eating, with the goal of supporting long-term shifts in dietary patterns.
